Hard Disk Slow Transfer Rate
Always reformat an external drive when you buy it, because they always come pre-formatted with the FAT32 file system. Just one day, it stopped doing it, and now I'm seeing transfer speeds above 100MBs. It starts out telling me it'll take 20 mins, then 40, then 60, then 240, and on and on. In case you interrupt the copy, you won't have to start over.

THAT copy took less than an hour, and it had to go downstream from one external and then upstream to the new external. EDIT: As Ipor Sircer has suggested, cloning the partition would be much faster, since this involves bit-to-bit transfer of data, so it wouldn't be slowed down by this. The Samsung 840 and 850 series has a buffer of faster flash, which makes the drive feel nice and snappy.
