To be on the safe side I changed the Startup type of this service from "Automatic (Delayed Start)" to "Manual". Although I know I'm not supposed to, I have several times just highlighted the offending svchost process and "stopped" it (sorry, I can't remember exact term). I was loosing connectivity on my network after 3-5 mins and the computer was freezing svchost & DPC & hardware interupts were spiking the CPU to 98-100% I had to reset I isolated each service in a separate process as described here: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2009/04/10/prf-high-cpu-svchost-exe/ I then determined that the offending service waswuauserv. check over here

In my case, I guessed that the W means the process starts with "Windows" and opened them until I saw a match. Suddenly I had the CPU going crazy high, the fans were acting like crazy.
