Thinking it had worked and was on Standby, I started up again only to find it had shut the computer down, so back to the drawing board.Any comments ? But still no joy. None of these things helped me. By gently canceling the install it reset svchost's dont-go-into-standby setting, and voila standby happiness. I believe I have finally solved my stand by issues.(Update, 10/2008: See comments and responses below for troubleshooting and a updated windows hibernate and standby problem post I am maintaining as Windows Sleep Mode not working 1. There's a nice tool (free) called nCleaner that does several things. In the resulting dialog box, click the Hibernate tab, and if Enable Hibernation isn't checked, check it. I am using Windows XP Home edition 2004 and have no other problems at all, everything else works perfect. I got down to almost no services (and my computer was amazingly snappy -- but that's beside the point). or read our Welcome Guide to learn how to use this site. I've searched all over the place but it seems like there aren't any answers. You can click the Update Driver button if you like, but I've never seen this work.

Is there some registry entry that blocks standby/hibernate? What I would love to hear from you is some comments related to using an SSD instead of the standard HD.
